Last night around 5:30 pm, a possible tornado touched down in the community of Stow, Ohio. The storm damaged homes and in one case major structual damage when the storm blew part of the roof off of a home on the corner of Bunker Lane and Berwin Drive. Thankfully no one was hurt, just shooken up.
Drew Carey, who is the host of the popular game show, “The Price is Right” is offering $10,000 to a reward fund of the Bay Villiage Police Department in Ohio in hopes of finding the bullies of a 14 year old autistic boy who was challenged to perform the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. However, instead of having a bucket of cold water being dumped on him, it was a bucket full of human excrements. This touched Drew Carey’s heart so much, he also pledged to donate $10,000 to Autism Speaks if the perpetrators were apprehended. ALS is a diseases that affectst neuromuscular functions of the human body and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been bring aware to it over the past several months on social media.
A monumental moment occurred in England and Wales this past Friday. Marriage between same-sex couples was officially recognized. Many politicians from different parties within the respective countries applauded the change in the law. British Prime Minister David Cameron said in an article published on the Pink News website that, “”It says we are a country that will continue to honor its proud traditions of respect, tolerance and equal worth.” I am incredibly happy for all of those who can now share vows with their significant others. Love is love.

A homeless man asked for some money to get something to eat. When told that the person didn’t have any cash on them just change, he said he didn’t want change because thats not going to do anything for him. He than began to rant on how people keep giving him change and telling him to have a good day. So do you think when we help the homeless we are hindering them from being independent? Comment below!

Applications are now available to join the student staff of ZTV and WZIP-FM. You can gain experience in TV and Radio if you are a registered student at The University of Akron, attending classes this semester, and have a Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher. WZIP and ZTV are open to ANY major at UA. You can work in TV and Radio News, Sports, Promotions, Engineering, Editing, Advertising Sales, Production, Music, Web Programming, and as on-air Radio and TV Talent. Applications are available weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm at WZIP and ZTV located on the top floor of Kolbe Hall at The University of Akron.
Junior and Senior High School Students in Northern Ohio can participate in The “Stop The Hate! Youth Speak Out Essay Contest.” One Hundred Thousand Dollars in scholarships will be awarded with one $50,000 scholarship First Place Award. The Essay Program is offered by The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage in Cleveland. Junior and Senior High School Students are asked for their opinion on how to combat acts of hate, discrimination and intolerance. More details can be found at www.maltzmuseum.org. The Entry deadline is January 5th.
